The details follow but the overall plan is to light up the letters in 2006 to commemorate the following three events:
The 80th anniversary of the signs original creation in 1926
The 50th anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Fremont in 1956
The 90th anniversary of the last film being made at the Essanay Studios in Niles in 1916

There will be a official media launch during June 2005 with a Foundation Inaugural Dinner for local dignitaries, luminaries and benefactors planned during July or August.

The design of the renewable energy based lighting scheme is in the hands of a leading expert Professor Danieal Kammen from Berkeley University. It is anticipated that the power scheme design will be complete by July 2005. During August local contractors will be provided an Request for Proposal for the civil engineering work associated with locating the lights, solar cells, battery shelter and surrounding retaining fence.
It is expected that work on the project will commence around May and be complete by the end of July.
The official lighting ceremony will take place on September 10th as part of the Celebrate Fremont series of events (see http://www.celebratefremont.org )
